The use of Liquid Nitrogen is our preferred way of fitting a shaft into a gear without the need of heat. Using heat on the bore can result in distortion of the bore or worse, effecting the hardness. As some gears are a shrink transition fit, there are no keyways or splines so the transmission relies solely on the interference between shaft and gear
Liquid nitrogen cools the shaft to approx -200° C which causes the shaft to shrink, this then allows the shaft to enter the bore without and heat being needed.
